My favorite kids books...
While in North Dakota helping her Aunt Frankie prepare for a possible flood, Lucy finds her voice as a poet with the help of her two-year-old brother Teddy, the rest of their family, and a few cows. For ages 6 and up!
Carley uses humor and street smarts to keep her emotional walls high and thick. But the day she becomes a foster child, and moves in with the Murphys, she's blindsided. This loving, bustling family shows Carley the stable family life she never thought existed, and she feels like an alien in their cookie-cutter-perfect household. Despite her resistance, the Murphys eventually show her what it feels like to belong--until her mother wants her back and Carley has to decide where and how to live. She's not really a Murphy, but the gifts they've given her have opened up a new future. A great read for ages 9 & up!
A great read for any animal-lover over the age of 8. Great story!
Marty is not a girly-girl. In fact, she would much rather play in the mud than pretend to be princess. But Marty is fun and resourceful, and she turns a not-so-great situation for herself into lots of fun to read about. A terrific story with great characters. Appropriate for ages 7 & up.
Roland Wright wants to be a knight in armor. The problem: Roland's dad is a blacksmith, and only boys from noble families can even dream of becoming knights. This is a fabulous series for boys ages 6 & up who love adventure, sword fighting and knight training. Very fun!
J. J. Tully, a former search-and-rescue dog, is supposed to be resting and relaxing after a noble career. But he is hardly settled into his new home on a farm before a mama hen named Mildred wants him to find two of her chicks that have gone missing. A fun mystery for ages 8 & up!
For generations, the Beaumont family has harbored a magical secret. They each possess a "savvy" -a special supernatural power that strikes when they turn thirteen. Grandpa Bomba moves mountains, her older brothers create hurricanes and spark electricity... and now it's the eve of Mibs's big day. As if waiting weren't hard enough, the family gets scary news two days before Mibs's birthday: Poppa has been in a terrible accident. Mibs develops the singular mission to get to the hospital and prove that her new power can save her dad. So she sneaks onto a salesman's bus... only to find the bus heading in the opposite direction. Suddenly Mibs finds herself on an unforgettable odyssey that will force her to make sense of growing up -and of other people, who might also have a few secrets hidden just beneath the skin. This is a terrific story for ages 9 & up. Also, check out the sequel, Scumble, which is just as terrific!
It's hard to put into words how fabulous this book is, but it is a MUST READ!
When her parents are killed in a house fire, Martine, 11, is sent to live with a grandmother she didn't know she had at a wildlife sanctuary. The cold, hands-off woman offers little comfort to a displaced, grieving child, leaving Martine to fend for herself in a foreign land. When a local woman tells the child that she has "the gift," Martine doesn't know what it is or why she would have it. Then she learns of a white giraffe and poachers' intent on capturing it. The story unfolds into a legendary tale full of intrigue and what life demands of a young chosen one. This story is magical and fun. Also look for book 2, Dolphin Song, book 3 The Last Leopard and book 4, The Elephant's Tale.
This is a terrific read with plenty of action, adventure... and magic! I love this book!
A great read for ages 8 & up!
Dark Life is a tale of a future world so overpopulated that humans now live underwater. Sixteen-year-old Ty, first child born to the pioneers who live in the depths of the ocean, has little patience for topsiders (land dwellers) until he meets feisty Gemma, who immediately enlists his help to locate her missing older brother. This is a fun, exciting book for ages 9 & up. Cherise loves this book and the sequel, Rip Tide.
A humerous start to a new series. Could be a good pick for fans of "A Diary of a Wimpy Kid"! A really fun read for ages 9 and up!
This is an AMAZING book! A terrific book to share with your children! (It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!)
